Std 6: ICT 08: Let’s Use Spreadsheets - Questions and Answers
♦ Let's Get Familiar with LibreOffice Calc
To open the LibreOffice window.
Applications → office → LibreOffice Calc
♦ Rows and Columns in a Spreadsheet
Each sheet in a spreadsheet software is divided into a grid form with rows and columns. The rows are numbered in the order of 1,2,3,4,..., and the columns are represented by the letters A, B, C, D, E,... The rectangular boxes formed by the intersection of columns and rows are called cells.
The name of a cell, or the cell address, is formed by combining the name of the column and the name of the row.
♦ Add Data in Calc Sheet
• Click the mouse in the cell you need
• Type in data with the keyboard
• To move the selection from one cell to another, simply click the mouse in the new cell. Use the Arrow keys on the keyboard to reach the new cell.

♦ To Change the Width of Columns
To increase the width of the column, simply click and drag the double-headed arrow that appears when you place the mouse pointer between the headers of the columns. To increase the height of the rows in the same way.

♦ Find the Total of each Item
A mathematical equation used in Calc is a formula. You can type the formula in the formula bar or directly in the cell.

♦ To Use the Fill Handle Technique
• Click on the cell where the multiplication result is obtained
• You can see the Fill Handle symbol at the bottom right of the cell.
• Click on it and drag it down to the last cell where the multiplication result is needed.

♦ Find the Total Amount Received
• To find the sum of more cells, the technique included in spreadsheet software is the tool called F x ∑ = tool.
• When using Sum, the range of cells for which the sum is to be found appears as a function in the respective cell and the formula bar.
• Press the Enter key, and the result will appear in the respective cell.

♦ Cell Ranges
A group of more than one cell is called a cell range.

♦ When a Formula is Given
If you make any changes to the data in the cell ranges included in a formula added to the Calc sheet, the result will automatically change accordingly.

♦ Let's Give a Title
To add a New Row in Calc
• Which row should the new row be inserted above? Right-click on the header of that row
• From the menu that opens, click on "Insert rows above."
• Now, a new row will be inserted above the first row, and the row that was previously the first will have become the second.
To Merge Cells
• Click on the first cell to be merged, then, while holding down the Shift key, click on the last cell.
• Then, click on the "Merge cells" icon in the formatting toolbar.
• Now the title spans across all the cells.

♦ Facilities in Calc Software
Many mathematical operations can be done using LibreOffice Calc. Calc can be used to easily perform operations like percentage, average, etc., and to analyze information by converting it into various types of graphs.

Spreadsheet
A spreadsheet is an application software that helps to organize, calculate, and analyse data containing numbers and texts in table form. Spreadsheets can also be used to create charts and diagrams based on the data. It is a large digital table containing rows and columns. Many different sheets can be created in a spreadsheet file.
